Ice in the glass
Cold, then watered down by the second glass. Plenty of people do it anyway, and that's your call.
Preen Keeper is a frozen steel rod that stands in your already-chilled bottle and keeps it cold at the table, while you pour through its spout. It won't chill a warm bottle. We print that on the box, next to our own thermometer readings.
Gift-readyKeeps an already-chilled bottle cold for longer at the table.
Chill a warm bottle. On a room-temperature red it takes off only a few degrees.
Pour the first glass. The rod takes up room, so a full bottle would overflow.
You didn't chill it wrong. The fridge did its job. A cold bottle on the table drifts toward the temperature of the room, and today's rooms are warmer than the ones "room temperature" was named for.
In one informal test, a fridge-cold bottle left the white-wine serving range within about an hour. Our own Log, below, shows what Preen Keeper does to that hour.
One bottle, wine type not stated (Sensorist, c. 2013). Serving range: WSET and Decanter.

Cold, then watered down by the second glass. Plenty of people do it anyway, and that's your call.

It drips, floats the label off, and needs the in, out and dry routine every time you pour.

The wine stays cold. You don't stay at the table. Every top-up is a trip to the kitchen.
Nobody expects a freezer block to cool a warm sandwich. It keeps a cold one cold. Same here.
Preen Keeper is a stainless steel rod with a frozen core. Stand it in an already-chilled bottle and the warmth coming in through the glass is drawn into the frozen core, so your wine warms more slowly. You keep pouring through the spout with the rod in place.
A gram of thawing core soaks up about 30 times more heat than a gram of steel. That's why a full freeze matters more than the metal.
Freeze it once, then it's pour, stand it in, pour.
Before
Two hours in the freezer, or just keep it there between bottles.
The rod takes up room, so the first glass is yours. Skip it and a full bottle overflows.
Step 2
Slide the frozen rod into your already-chilled bottle until the collar sits snug in the neck.
Step 3
Leave it in and pour through the clear spout. The bottle stays on the table.
Afterwards: rinse, dry, back in the freezer. Hand wash only.
Every number on this page comes from our own probe-thermometer tests: three runs per condition, readings every 10 minutes, results published in full.
Only 2°C cooler after 30 minutes. That's why we'll never call it a chiller. Chill it in the fridge; Preen Keeper keeps it there.
We do long Sunday lunches and the ice bucket always left a ring on the table. Put this in a bottle of Picpoul straight from the fridge and it was still properly cold by the cheese course. Pour a glass first like the card says, or it overflows (ask me how I know).
His hands aren't what they were and corks had become a battle. The opener lifts them straight out, the Keeper lives in his freezer, and the stopper means a bottle lasts him the week. The whole set looked far dearer than it was.
Arrived looking like it came from a department store, so I could wrap it straight away. The little card with the two rules was perfect for my mum, who doesn't do gadgets.
One rod length can't fit everything, so we tested and listed the results, including the two it doesn't suit. If yours isn't here, ask us before you order.
| Bottle | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard 75cl, cork | Fits | Pour a glass first |

| Half bottle, 37.5cl | Too short | The rod is longer than the bottle |

"What's actually inside it?" is one of the first things people ask about chiller sticks. You shouldn't have to guess.
You don't have to know their wine. It works with whatever they already like to drink cold, from the first night, even when you're not there to explain.
Long, slim and rigid, with nothing stuck on the front. Ships in a plain carton.
So it works perfectly the first time they use it.
Written by you, printed on a card. No prices in the parcel.

Three tools that match. Open it in seconds, keep it cold to the last glass, and save the rest for tomorrow.
The second glass, as cold as the first.

Still properly cold when we finished the cheese. Wish I'd bought one years ago.
Your fridge does the chilling. Preen Keeper does the keeping. A frozen core inside a stainless steel rod stands in the middle of your already-chilled bottle and soaks up the warmth coming in from the room, so the wine stays in its serving range for longer. You pour through the clear spout without taking it out. It won't chill a warm bottle, and we say so on the box.

No, and we'd rather you knew before you buy. On a room-temperature bottle it takes off only a couple of degrees. Chill the bottle in the fridge first; Preen Keeper keeps it cold once it's out.
In our test, a fridge-cold 75cl bottle stayed below 10°C for 90 minutes in a 20°C room, against 38 minutes without it. A hot garden shortens that; a cool dining room stretches it.
The rod takes up room in the bottle. Pour the first glass, then slide it in, or a full bottle will overflow.
It fits standard 75cl and 70cl bottles, screw caps, Prosecco and Champagne, and deep punts. It works less well in magnums and doesn't suit half bottles. Full results in the fit list.
Yes. Give the bottle 20 minutes in the fridge first to take it to cellar temperature, then Preen Keeper holds it there through dinner. On its own, it only takes the edge off a warm red.
A 304 (18/8) stainless steel rod with a sealed, food-safe coolant core. The spout is BPA-free acrylic and the collar is food-grade silicone.
No. It works inside the bottle. Once the wine is in your glass, it warms like any other glass.
Two hours. Easiest is to keep it in the freezer between bottles. With the Pair or the Set, one is always ready.
Honestly, the idea is the same. What you get with Preen is proof it works (our published Log), a fit list so you know it suits your bottles, food-grade materials named in full, a gift box that arrives looking new, a free gift note, a 1-year warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Free tracked delivery takes 5–8 days, so leave a little time before the big day. Christmas gifts can be returned until 31 January.
It works on still wine with a natural or synthetic cork: take off the foil, push the needle through the cork, give it a few pumps. Screw caps don't need it. Never use it on Champagne, Prosecco or any sparkling wine: the bottle is already under pressure.
Standard 75cl bottles, still or sparkling. Press it on and twist to lock: Prosecco and Champagne keep their fizz, and still wine stays fresh until tomorrow. It isn't made for magnums.
